Let's Try This Again

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me, Zim.  Many thanks to those of you who understood about delaying Serene Scenery Sunday by a day.  The Thundering Herd's hudad suggested on FaceBook that this would have been much easier if PhotoShop had a "find the best pictures" feature.  He's pretty smart - or he got that from Queen Natasha.  I'll leave that right there.

Mom put a LOT of her photos from Saturday up on Flickr; you can view the whole set at this link.  I thought I'd share my favorites here - with my comments, of course!  Let's take a look!

While I love the hair-do the female Commons have, I REALLY love the Hoodies' --

Seriously.  It's sort of "Bride of Frankenstein", don't you think?

Everyone was very busy fishing at the river.  Here's the tail-end of a Merganser catching her breakfast!

Dive!  Dive!!  Dive!!!

Mom also saw this Goldeneye Duck ...

... and I think he saw her, too!

Overhead, Mom saw some Gooses:

There were two Pelicans swimming around.  Here's one of them:

And there were LOTS of Great Blue Heron busy fishing!

Going in for the kill!

"Wait.  What was I doing again?"

Really.  It looks like his train of though got derailed, doesn't it?

Here's another Heron:

"I got a fish!"

Check out this bank of the river:

Find the Herons!

We count seven Herons in that photo; see how many you can find!

Here's one doing a little dance:

Cammie and I saw Mom do that same move on a patch of black ice this morning, but that's another matter altogether.  Let's get back to serene fishing scenes:

"Got it!"

This guy looks like he's up to something:

"Psst!  Hey, buddy!  Wanna buy a watch?"

Check out the catch this guy made:

"DINNER!"
"Help!  Helllpppp meeeeee!"

Very serene!  Unless you're the fish, of course...

IMG_3331GreatBlueHeronFish
"No, really!  HELPPPPPP!"

Here's ano--DUCK!!!  No, really!  DUCK!

IMG_3489GreatBlueHeron

OK, it's another Great Blue Heron, but DUCK!!!!!

I'll leave you with one more photo and a poem:

One heron,
Two herons,
Three herons:
Great Blue Herons.

Don't blame me.  Mom wrote that one.

I hope you enjoyed our photos.  Remember, if you'd like to see more, please check out our Flickr set!

Play bows,
Zim

  1. The water is very foamy? Why is that?

Such pretty photos - I love looking at birds but have never really tried to identify them or photograph them. Here in AZ it is just easier to say - there is a brown bird or there is a grey bird. 50% of the time you are right that way... BOL!

  2. Wow, What a show with so many beautiful birds. Although we saw two Pelicans here last week-they've all departed for the south and warmer weather. I haven't seen any Herons lately either; lots of Canadian geese.
    Thanks for sharing.

  5. Absolutely fantastic photos! (And FABULOUS commentary! We love the guy selling watches!) Your Mom and her photos inspires our Mom, and since we get turkey treats for being willing subjects, we think it is a good thing!

  7. Those were lovely pix and we loved the ones of the herons. They might be a day late but they were worth the wait. Have a terrific Tuesday.
