My New Bed

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me, Zim.  I realized I haven't told you about my new bed yet.  I've had it for a couple of weeks now, but I'm still getting used to it, breaking it in, showing it who's in charge - that sort of thing.  Sure, it's comfy enough now ...

IMG_0140z Zim
"Zzzzz...."

... but it has taken a LOT of work to get it that way.  I had the team put together a short video to show you just what I'm talking about!  Roll it!

I know.  But remember I'm a Working Breed, so this sort of thing comes naturally to me.

One last little vignette of me and the new bed for your viewing pleasure:

My feety-feet

It's a fairly good platform for doing cute poses.  Still needs some breaking in, but I think it's a winner.

Storm Prep

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me, Zim.  As I mentioned yesterday, we had a ton more snow in the forecast and we got busy at Ao4 Headquarters making sure we were all set for an emergency!  Part of those important preparations, of course, is ensuring that we have enough Stinky Goodness Treats to last a while in case the power goes out.  I thought I'd share that process with you today.  Ready to get cooking?

Oh.  Before I get started, you might be interested to hear how much snow the storm blew in - am I right?  We got - are you ready for it?  Nothing.  That's right, nothing.  All the biped meteorologists said we were in the path of the storm, up to a foot of snow due in ... and we got nothing.  You might be wondering, "Hey, Zim.  Since you predicted the last snowfall, did anyone check with you?"  Great question, readers!  And the answer is, "No."  Did I display The Snow Look?  No.  I did not.  That should have been the first clue.  But hey, at least there's a fresh batch of Stinky Goodness Treats to enjoy!

The process went something like this:

IMG_3700z Zim
"Did I hear you get the can opener out?"

Sure.  I'm 13 and am getting a bit hard of hearing, but I know when that can opener comes out!

Let's do a little Quality Control, shall we?

IMG_3710z Zim
"Oh, this is a fine, fine can!"

I'd hate for us to go to all the trouble without checking the ingredients!

Next up, slice it up and fill the Stinky Goodness Machine!

IMG_3712z Zim
"Looks good!"

It's important to oversee every step along the way!

And to clean as you go!

IMG_3715z Zim
"The cutting board's good to go, Mom!"

After a bit of clean up, it's time to put the Stinky Goodness Machine out on the screened-in part of the deck.  (I still don't understand why we can't do that in the house so we can enjoy the fragrance as it cooks!)

IMG_3716z Zim
"It's all set!   Now to wait ..."

IMG_3717z Zim
"It's going to take HOW long?!?!"

I forgot that it takes a few hours.  I thought Mom and I should do something fun to pass the time; I recommended zoomies!

IMG_3724z Zim
"Chase me, Mom!"

All part of the process!

I hope those of you who did get this latest round of snow were prepared!  Enjoy it for all of us - and if you need any help building a really cool snow fort, give me a call!

Play bows,
Zim

Reinforcing!

Ha roo, pups and kit-cats!  It's me, Zim.  It's been a pretty busy time around here, as you can imagine.  Part two of our snowstorm is due in later today, so we've all been busy making preparations - you know, stock the shelves of Ao4 Headquarters, do laundry and make extra Stinky Goodness Treats in case we lose power, take lots of walks ... that sort of thing!  Dave and I are especially good at helping with that last one.  So there I was ...

Mom and I were almost back at HQ, when I saw that my really cool snow fort on the northern flank needed some work.

IMG_3655z Zim
"Needs a little reinforcement!"

I knew I needed to hop right on it.  What if someone sprang a sneak-attack on me and I wasn't prepared?  I looked around, and sure enough, I spotted someone!

IMG_3648z Zim
"Mom, look!  Someone's coming!  Quick!  To the really cool snow fort!"

I dove in and got right to work!

IMG_3660z Zim
"Hey, Zimmie?"
"Gimme a minute, Mom, I'm working."

IMG_3663z Zim
"Zim?"
"Hang on,  Mom!  Someone's coming!  I've gotta get my really cool snow fort ready!"

IMG_3666z Zim
"Zimmie, it's DAVE.  It's Dave and your dad coming!"
"Huh?"

IMG_3664z Zim
"Zimmie!"
"I knew that all along.  Really."

Really.  I did.  I knew it was them.

IMG_3667z Zim
"I'm about done here, anyway."

IMG_3669zd Zim
"Hey, Zim, your really cool snow fort is standing tall, buddy!"
"Thanks, Dave!"

That ought to hold it for now.  I'll have more work to do after the Blizzard of Oz, Part Deux gets here.  For now - we're ready!

Play bows,
Zim

Serene Scenery Sunday

Woo, everypup and everycat.  It's me, Dave, here with some scenes guaranteed to help you feel a bit more serene.  Ready to relax?

When this week started, we had some nice, warm weather!  We even hit over 70 degrees F one day!  I thought it was a great day to take a walk with my kid brother!

IMG_3571dz Dave and Zim
"Isn't this great, Zim?  I feel like I'm back in Texas!"
"Every walk is a great walk!"

Nothing beats walking with your best buddy!  Especially when it's warm and sunny!

And you can play outside for a longer time before Mom gets cold and wants to go in!

IMG_3587d Dave
"SQUEAK!"

We even had sunsets like this:

IMG_3567e Sunset
God's amazing artwork in the sky

Doesn't that make you all warm and fuzzy?

Speaking of which...

IMG_3603d Dave
Me and my mom.  Warm, fuzzy, and color-coordinated!

Then... as you know, our sunset scene changed from what you see above to this:

IMG_3621e Scene off the back deck
Blizzard of Oz, Part 1, in process

It came down like crazy!  And guess what?  A ton more is on it's way tomorrow night and Tuesday.

Zim thought he and Mom should take a spin in the car before the roads get all covered in ice and snow again.  Amazingly enough, they ended up going past the Kansas Ocean!

IMG_3681z Zim
"No ducks today, Mom!  The KSO's frozen over!"

Doesn't it look peaceful and calm?  And they had the whole place to themselves!

I hope this helped you feel that inner serenity.  I think it did the trick for me.

IMG_3679d Dave
"How 'bout you, Mom?  Feeling the warm fuzzies?"
"You betcha, Davy!"

Have a great Sunday!

Luv,
Dave

Snow Day Activity

Woo, everypup and everycat.  It's me, Dave.  You've seen one of Zim's favorite snow day activities - making his really cool snow forts.  I thought I'd show you one of mine.

After I trudge through the snow for a while ...

IMG_3642d Dave
"Must ... keep ... going ... "

... rather than making a really cool snow fort, here's what I like to do!

IMG_3638d Dave
"Mom?  Wanna snuggle?  Hold my paw?  Mom?  Hi, Mom."

Yep.  Nothing better on a cold, snowy day.  Or a 70-degrees and sunny day.  Or a rainy day.  Or a hot, Summer's day ... or ...

Luv,
Dave

Photo Finish Friday

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me - Zim!  Did you see all that great snow in Dave's post yesterday?!?  Wowzers, what a way to cap off the week!  Of course, that means lots of extra work for me - and I got right to it!

Dave and I took Mom on a walk in the afternoon while Dad shoveled.

IMG_3622z Zim

As we approached Ao4 Headquarters on the way home, I saw my biggest challenge - Dad had piled a huge amount of snow just to the north of our driveway.  Just piled it there.  Obviously, he needed me to make a really cool snow fort!

IMG_3624z Zim

Am I right?  Why else would he pile the snow up like that?!?

IMG_3623z Zim
"C'mon, Mom!  I need to get busy!"

I got right to work.

IMG_3625z Zim

Can you tell how seriously I take my work?

IMG_3626z Zim

This isn't a task to be taken lightly!  I put a lot of work into my really cool snow forts.  And a lot of heart and soul.  And my shoulder.

IMG_3627z Zim
"Oomph!"

OK... just a few finishing touches!

IMG_3629z Zim

Almost have it!

IMG_3630z Zim

Yep.

IMG_3633z Zim
Me in my really cool snow fort.  Checking for any sign of invaders.

This'll do for now.  I'm sure I'll need to reinforce it a bit today - we got a few more inches after Mom shot these pix, and Dad piled more snow onto my really cool snow fort.

A Siberian's work is never done!

Zim

The Snow Look

Woo, everypup and everycat.  It's me, Dave.  What a difference a day makes!  You saw yesterday how I was enjoying a little Kansas sunshine, comfy grass, and my squeaky bone.  I wondered why, when we went out in the afternoon, Zim kept getting a funny look on his face.  It was one I should have recognized, but I had just never seen Zim do it before.

So ... fast-forward to this morning.  Here I am on our after-breakfast walk:

IMG_3613d Dave
On our way out

That's about when I remembered where I've seen that look before.  That was our sister Ammy's Snow Look!  (Check out this lesson she gave Zim.)  Yep.  She and our great sister Jesse could always tell when snow was on the way -- and Zim sure knew yesterday!

A certain biped around here was doubtful that we'd get any.  I'm not going to name names.

IMG_3612mz Mike and Zim
"Davy, I said I hoped they were wrong!"
"C'mon, Dad.  Let's go!"

Woo. I remember things a little differently.

The picture above is my Snow Look, in case anyone is wondering.  Ha woo.

Just Ducky! Or Not...

Ha roo, pups and cool cats!  It's me, Zim!  Mom and I have been making lots of trips to the Kansas Ocean together lately.  There are a couple ducks who have been hanging out there lately that Mom can't identify.  She's been trying to get some good pictures of them, but the lighting is usually "off" when we're there.  That's OK with me - it just means we need to go more often!

Here I am on a recent visit:

IMG_0330PS Zim

It was a tad breezy that day, but we went at a time of day where the light was pretty good!  Sounded like a good plan ... only ... can you see over there on the right-hand side of the pic, on the far shore?  There was a guy down there!

IMG_0324PS Zim
"I think he scared the ducks off, Mom."

I haven't even been able to lure the ducks in like I do, so you know they're pretty skittish!  Hmm.  Yeah,  well, I don't know what that guy was doing over there, but he was in someone else's territory.  Oh, not mine.  But we usually see this guy over there:

IMG_0237PS Hawk

We didn't see our hawk friend that day, but I'm sure he was watching from somewhere close!

Did I mention it was breezy?  Check out my floof:

IMG_0318PS Zim
Double-checking for the ducks

We didn't see the ducks.  Here are a couple pix of them from a couple days earlier:

IMG_0230PS "Mystery ducks"

That's the male.  He doesn't have a green head like a Mallard ... so we think they are something else.  If you'd like to see more pix and can help ID them, please click here to go to our FlickR set.  Please leave a comment if you have any ideas!

You can't really tell colors in this shot, but Mom likes it anyway:

IMG_0193ps "Mystery ducks"

His head is almost a rusty color.  Almost.

Speaking of rusty-colored heads ...

IMG_0319ps Zim
Me!

We'll try to get some better shots.  Guess that means more trips to the Kansas Ocean!  That's just ducky as far as I'm concerned!  Right, Mom?!?  Ha roo roo roo!

Play bows,
Zim

This Is For The Birds!

Woo, everypup and everycat.  It's me - Dave.  You aren't going to believe what went on around here over the weekend.  Remember what Zim said about being late with our post Saturday because Mom "someone" was out cavorting with Border Collies?  Well, it's TRUE!

IMG_0349ps Dave
"Can you believe that!?!?"

I know.  I was shocked.  Mom left without me ... without Zim ... without Dad, even!  And came back smelling like ... well, click here.  That's right.  Border Collies.  And she just couldn't say enough nice things about them - how sweet they were, how handsome, how well-behaved!  (Yeah, well, Zim and I have two out of three covered...)  Anyway, apparently she didn't go out just to commune with them - she and her friend were out searching for eagles!  I thought I'd share some of those pix with you today, since it's Monday and you might need a pick-me-up.  Ready?  Let's get birding!

This isn't an eagle, but Mom was pretty excited to get some shots of her.

IMG_0259ps Female Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker

Mom and her friend think it's a female Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker!

Next, they saw a Bald Eagle!  Here are a few shots of it:

IMG_0263ps-c Bald Eagle

IMG_0265ps Bald Eagle

IMG_0266ps Bald Eagle

Mom was mighty excited!  They also checked one of the eagle nests, but didn't see any there.  Here's the nest; it is huge!

IMG_0274ps Eagle nest

I think if the eagles who made that didn't want to do eagle stuff anymore, they could get a job weaving baskets.  That's a mighty intricate-looking nest!

There were some gooses at the lake, too:

IMG_0270ps Canada Geese

IMG_0271ps Canada Geese

IMG_0273ps Canada Goose

Mom said they're Canada Geese, though I have no idea how she knows where they're from.

They saw gulls out there, too, since it's an ocean:

IMG_0286ps Gull

IMG_0291ps Gull

I mean, there are always seagulls at the ocean, right?  Oh - and earlier in the week, Mom and Dad went out to Tuttle Creek Lake/Dam/Reservoir/Ocean and the River Pond and saw some other gulls.  Here is one shot from then:

IMG_0169ps Gull

It was warmer that day - you can almost tell just by looking at the photos, can't you?

On her way out of the park, Mom saw another Bald Eagle from across one of the inlets and stopped to take a photo of him:

IMG_0309ps Bald Eagle

Mom took tons more pix.  If you'd like to see them, please visit our set on FlickR by clicking here.

We hope you enjoyed Mom's bird pix.  She hopes to go out again soon.  Oh, yeah.  Without us, because she "can't hold a leash and focus the camera at the same time".  I wonder if she'll come back smelling like Border Collies again...

IMG_0344ps Dave

It's enough to drive a guy to drink.

Have a great Monday!

Luv,
Dave

PS:  We didn't really mind Mom cavorting with Border Collies, but don't tell her.  Ha woo.
