Serene Scenery Sunday

Tail wags, readers!  I hope you're enjoying the weekend.  It's Stormy here, with Serene Scenery Sunday.  Today I'm featuring a bunch of pictures from our garden.  Mom was out weeding yesterday (and pup, was it exhausting watching her through the windows from the comfort of the house!) so I tasked her to take some photos for our blog post today.  With Kansas being what it is, we have to enjoy Spring flowers when we can, or a violent t-storm will damage them or a freeze will zap them all away!  So here's what's blooming now!

A stray Redbud bloom:

Editor's note:  The original picture was accidentally deleted; here are two new ones to replace it.

One of Mom's favorites, Lily of the Valley:

Rumor has it, she carried some in her wedding bouquet!

Mohican Viburnum (a favorite among the Ao4!  Please click here to see why!):

Eskimo Viburnum

Lilacs:

"Skidmore" Lilacs

We refer to those as "Skidmore" Lilacs, just because Mom got the little root from her friend Deb Skidmore.  Ha roo roo roo!  Those red flowers in the background are some Texas Quince.

A Yorktown Snow Flower Tree, courtesy of Aunt Janet:

She sent it to us for Christmas and it had to spent the winter in the garage, until our ground thawed.  We're thrilled to see it thriving in our backyard garden now!

How about some Wine and Cheese?  That's what Mom often calls these, though they're Wine and Roses Weigela:

Here's a better look at some Texas Quince:

Some Old Fashioned Lilacs:

We have two more varieties of Lilacs - Miss Kim and some Dwarf Korean Lilacs, but they aren't doing anything yet.  These Old Fashioned ones are a deeper color than the Skidmores; the Miss Kim and the Koreans give us two more lilac colors.  I can't wait to show you when they bloom!

Snowball Viburnum - not white like snow yet, but they will be -- unless a Kansas storm rips them up:

(That's "storm" with a small "s"; I'd never do such a thing!)

And last, but not least, Eskimo Viburnum!

Great name, don't you think?

I hope you enjoyed our garden tour!  Do you feel serene yet?

Tail wags,
Storms

  5. oh my, I feel very serene now.

Thank youse so much for the garden tour. Please tell your Mum her flowers are lovely, it is worth just watching her weed to get such good views!!

My J says some of your flowers are ahead of ours, and some are about the same ( I have no idea in my Marvin head what she is barking about but I will report to you faithfully what she says......;0D)

Apparently our lilac is out now but what you call Snowball Viburnam, she calls a White Hydrangea, however, I also have to bark to you, she knows nothing about plants.....and is also shortsighted!

Sorry I am late in commenting my Parents have been "doing things" and leaving me behind to guard the garden..........so soon I will know far much more about the garden than the little my Jeannie knows!

    He Storm,
That's a beautiful garden tour. Does your mom rent out? We could use a reliable gardener. We can give you a virtual tour of our garden, you'll just need to use your imagination. This is our chwed Virginia Dogwood (the State Flower) tree. This is the dead Pampass Grass, This is the stepped on Ivy. This is the dead Kentucky fescu. This is the ripped Azalea. This is the dead something else. This is the trampled whatevet, etc. Do you get the picture?

  12. Your garden is beautiful! We don't have any flowers yet, but my Mom is keeping an eye out for her 18 year old Bleeding Heart to see if it makes it back this year. We hope so cuz our Aunty gave it to her that long ago. We will put up a pic if it comes.

    Kisses,

  17. It's me again....just wanted to tell you how I got couch privileges. ;) Did you see the picture of me with my face turned around looking up at the camera...well, I was resting it on the couch and giving the sweet face. Start with that and then progress to putting your front paws up. When they tell you to get off walk away looking as sad and defeated as you can. Repeat these steps and in a couple of months you too shall have couch privileges. ;)

    Good luck!

  27. Very pretty. I was going to say that your mom is a really good gardener, but then I realized that the trick is all in the supervision. So really it's you that makes the garden so pretty!
